Douglas Petraco, MD, FAAOS

Dr. Petraco specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee. He prides himself on offering the latest advanced techniques in joint replacement surgery including mini-incision hip and knee replacement. Dr. Petraco serves as the Director of the Orthopedic Surgery Department at St. Charles Hospital and the Orthopedic Service Line Director for Catholic Health Services. As chief of orthopedics at St. Charles, Dr. Petraco was instrumental in bringing MAKOplasty robotic partial knee replacement to the hospital. Dr. Petraco is also the Medical Director of Precision Care Surgery Center in East Setauket where he performs numerous ambulatory hip and knee replacement surgeries allowing patients to return home 3 hours after their surgery.

Dr. Petraco graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1988, after which he received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College graduating with academic honors. His post-graduate training included an internship at NYU Medical Center and an orthopedic surgery residency at The Hospital for Joint Diseases/NYU Langone, where he was chosen to serve as an executive chief resident in his final year. Dr. Petraco also completed a research fellowship in biomaterials and biomechanics at The Hospital for Joint Diseases. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
